More than 100 different volunteers in a variety of crews are needed to make St. Albert’s Seven Music Fest a memorable day.
The work they do is not as glamorous as singing on stage with thousands of cheering fans. But truthfully, without volunteers festivals are a no-go. They are the backbone of any big event.
Adrienne Schmidt, volunteer coordinator for Seven Music Fest taking place Saturday, July 7 at Seven Hills, is hoping to entice volunteers for a variety of positions.
“We need volunteers for parking lot control, site perimeter control, information booth, front gate, ticket takers, security bag checks, and the reception hospitality centre,” said Schmidt.
Volunteers are also required Thursday, July 5 and Friday, July 6 for set up (cordoning off the site perimeter and erecting the stage) as well as take-down on Sunday, July 8.
Volunteers must be older than 18 years and are asked to put in a minimum of six hours.
Schmidt is looking for volunteers with a flexible and positive attitude willing to handle unexpected situations. People from all backgrounds and abilities are invited to apply.
“We are looking for people that are reliable, honest, enthusiastic and polite. It’s a family event and we need to be respectful of all the different people that pay to come,” Schmidt said.
She added, “Volunteers are ambassadors of the festival and we need them to be on their best behaviour and exhibit a positive manner."
In return, volunteers receive a festival T-shirt and a day pass when not working, in addition to a catered meal, snacks and beverages at the hospitality centre. The volunteer centre also carries veggie trays, fruit, cookies and muffins.
“If people have allergies or have gluten sensitivities, please let us know. We always make sure we can feed them.”
Volunteers are also invited to an appreciation barbecue at summer’s end.
Schmidt also notes that some crews are self-recruit. LoSeCa volunteers as the environmental green team keeping grounds clean while SAIF volunteers man two beer tents.
“Volunteering is a great way to meet people in the community. And when you volunteer, you never know what will come.”
