The toddlers at Kaleo Play Mommy Meet-up are definitely too young for classes. But the youngsters enjoy all the fun of school playing with toys, gliding down slides, checking out crafts and munching on snacks.
Now up and running for about six weeks, this newly formed playgroup meets every Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Next Christian Community.
Targeted to the pre-school crowd and their parents, the Mommy Meet-up’s primary goal is to provide connections to any parent needing the service.
“When I had my first child, it was hard to meet other moms. My husband and I were pretty isolated. I want to provide opportunities to other mothers I didn’t have,” said Chantelle Richard, the group’s primary organizer.
For parents the playgroup is a chance to make new friends and exchange child rearing tips in a relaxed environment.
So far about 15 parents and tots turn up every week with familiar and new faces cycling through.
“Each week we have different faces show up. We hope to get more as we become more well-known.”
Once a month Richard plans to invite special guests. At the moment she is in talks with the St. Albert Public Library to develop a story-time drop-in.
And this coming Halloween Monday, Frozen’s Princess Elsa from Enchanted Princess Parties, drops by for a performance and a kid-friendly sing-along.
“She’s doing a performance because she’s an amazing singer, and there will dancing and crafts.”
