Just in case you thought that the end of summer meant the end of hot rod shows, think again. The Edmonton Camaro and Firebird Club is once again hosting its annual Wheels for Wishes event as a way of bringing out car lovers for one last hurrah while the days are still sunny and warm.

This time, they're bringing the show to the Apex Casino, one of the major epicentres of classic car shows over the summer. Now, it's going to see what organizer Kelly Lauder describes as "Just a whole bunch of cool cars," everything from Lamborghinis to fire trucks to good ol' muscle cars. Yes, there will likely be a few Camaros and Firebirds too.

He said that it should be a great time as there's room for a few hundred cars on the lot.

"We're expecting a fairly large turnout," he noted.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Apex Casino, 24 Boudreau Rd. Attendance is free but there is a minimum $15 donation per vehicle on site. Awards will be given out, plus there's a 50/50 draw and gift bags for the first 200 participants. The Cranky Ape food truck will be on site, but it isn't part of the show. It will, however, offer a portion of its profits to the cause. The event brought in $2,800 in its first year and approximately $10,000 last year.

"$10,000 is one child's wish," Lauder added, "That's what our goal is."

VASA garage sale

As a non-profit agency, the Visual Arts Studio Association relies on volunteers and donations the same as any other would. In between its art exhibits by Patricia Trudeau and Peg McPherson, VASA is hosting its first ever garage sale.

All members of the public, and nearby patrons of the St. Albert Farmers' Market, are invited to stop in at the parking lot of the Hemingway Centre at 25 Sir Winston Churchill Ave. The sale features gently used items, everything from clothing to books, small electronics, art and furniture. All proceeds will go to the artists' collective. Items that don't get sold will be donated to LoSeCa and the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
