Flashback returns to LB's Pub

Flashback may be forgiven for feeling slightly elated. The Edmonton-based classic rock revival band is returning to LB’s Pub after a two-year absence.

Flashback may be forgiven for feeling slightly elated. The Edmonton-based classic rock revival band is returning to LB’s Pub after a two-year absence.

Classic rock just keeps rockin’ and the band has developed a reputation of singing those slick traditional tunes that keep being reborn.

Some of those global grooves range from John Mellencamp’s The Authority Song and The Beatles Revolution to The Romantics’ What I Like About You and Doobie Brothers China Grove.

“What’s different about our band is that our third set is all Canadian rock music. I don’t know of any other band that does that,” said founder and lead singer Terry Lodge.

Accompanying Lodge is long-time friend Orest Zmydndak (lead guitar-vocals), Jeff Mann (drums) and Harris Christian (bass-guitar).

Flashback’s evolution since 2004, when it was named Rockola, has been a gradual grassroots ascent so much so that the material is selected from their fans’ comfort zone.

“People want to hear what they recognize. And we’ve stayed away from writing original songs,” Lodge said.

Whether it harkens back to Trooper, The Guess Who, Harlequin or April Wine, it’s those seminal nostalgic moments that Flasback wants to recapture.

Flashback plays at LB’s Pub on Friday, Dec. 2 from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. There is no cover.
