Elliott BROOD and Great Lake Swimmers play St. Albert

Arden Theatre plays host to two of Canada's compelling folk acts Oct. 18.

The Arden Theatre appears to be releasing its 2025-26 concert lineup one-by-one, starting with Elliott BROOD and Great Lake Swimmers, who share a bill on Saturday, Oct.18.

Elliott BROOD, a three-piece Canadian alt country folk-rock band formed in Toronto in 2002, has released 12 albums and EPs.

Their latest recording, Town & Country, is a product of 20 years of writing, recording and gritty touring. So much so, that their style has developed a few monikers over the years such as “death country,” “frontier rock” and “revival music.”

Town & Country is a two-disc project with one disc released in 2023 devoted to “Town” songs while the other disc, “Country” highlighting country songs, was released in 2024.

Sharing the Arden bill is Toronto-based Great Lake Swimmers. The band tends to blend acoustic instruments, rural soundscapes and wistful songwriting, led by vocalist and songwriter Tony Dekker. As a way of highlighting traditional sounds, the four-piece indie-folk group creates largely atmospheric albums recorded in old silos and rural country churches.

In 2023 they released their eighth studio album, Uncertain Country. In describing the 15-track recording, Dekker said it was “about new beginnings, rear-view reflections, and ruminations on the fluidity of time.”

By 2024, the band released a double album titled In Pieces: An Acoustic Retrospective, a collection of scaled back versions of songs from their full catalogue. The band has been shortlisted for the Polaris Prize and was twice nominated for Juno Awards.

This double bill starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 including GST, handling charges and fees. Call 780-459-1542 or visit tickets.stalbert.ca.
