Prominent local lawyer Kent Davidson received a prestigious award from local Rotary clubs during a special banquet event held in Nisku recently.
The annual Integrity Award is offered to a non-Rotarian member of the community who has made exceptional contributions to her or his community in the spirit of the principles of Rotary. Candidates must pass the Rotary’s worldwide moral code called the Four-Way Test. The test includes questions on how one governs their behaviours and actions with four questions regarding the truth, fairness, goodwill, and benefits to it.
“It was quite an honour and a privilege. I was very fortunate enough to receive the recognition,” he exclaimed. “These are the kinds of things that you gratefully and humbly and appreciatively, sometimes surprisingly, receive.”
Davidson was a member of St. Albert City Council from 1992 to 1995 and again from 1998 to 2001. He has been a lawyer with Miller Thomson since he left politics, and became the managing partner of the firm’s Edmonton office soon after that. Later, he took over the management of both the Edmonton and Calgary offices. In 2014, he was named the chair of the national law firm that employs approximately 450 lawyers in 11 offices across the country. He is also the president of the board of the St. Albert Community Foundation.
He has given many years of community service including being a charter member of the Rotary Club of St. Albert. Although he is no longer a Rotarian, Davidson said the award means a great deal to him, since it comes from an organization that he still firmly believes in.
“I quite enjoyed my time there. It’s a tremendous organization. It does great philanthropic work. It’s a great service club in the truest and best sense of that word. I really respect the members of that club and the work they do in that community.”
He added that the Integrity Award is particularly meaningful because he holds the club and its members with such high esteem.
“I’ve known them to be great citizens. Rotary as a service organization has done tremendous valuable work throughout the world. It’s particularly meaningful when an organization who you hold and its members in such high regard provide you this kind of nod. To me, it’s quite a personal honour.”
