Will’s Jams at MCCC

Children’s musician and CBC TV personality Will Stroet is the creator of Will’s Jams Live coming to Morinville Community Cultural Centre on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Will and his band first premiered this show as an interactive media experience with stories and songs while touring China in 2017.

He incorporates educational rock, pop and blues songs peppered with witty wordplay that ignites the imagination and motivates movement for young munchkins.

The performance starts at 2 p.m. The cultural centre is at 9502 – 100 Ave. Tickets are $15 single or family 4-pack $50. Call 780-939-7888 or at www.ticketpro.ca. Additional charges apply.

Almost, Maine at Concordia

Concordia University of Edmonton’s Theatre Cue's first production of the season is playwright John Cariani’s Almost, Maine, a series of nine two-person vignettes.

The short playlets explore the themes of love and loss in a remote, quirky, almost mythical town called Almost, Maine. Over the course of magical winter night, the couples, at different stages in relationships, fall in and out of love.

In 2006, Charles Isherwood, a New York Times reviewer wrote a mixed critique. He described it as “A comedy comprising almost a dozen two-character vignettes exploring the sudden thunderclap of love and the scorched earth that sometimes follows. John Cariani’s play will evoke either awww-s or ick-s, depending on your affection for its whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance.”

Despite sometimes mixed critical reviews, Almost, Maine has become one of the top produced plays at North American high schools.

Director Glenda Stirling helms this romantic comedy with 18 student actors playing a variety of roles.

Almost, Maine runs Nov. 2 to 11 at the Al and Trish Huehn Theatre, 73 Street and 111 Avenue. Tickets are $15 to $20. At door or www.tixonthesquare.ca.
