Blood of Our Soil

Lianna Makuch's Blood of Our Soil is a politically charged production that depicts the struggles and hostilities of Ukraine against the atrocities of Stalin and the horrors of Hitler to the disturbing parallels of Putin's regime.

Blood of Our Soil unifies dramatic story telling, live Ukrainian folk music as well as a fusion of traditional and contemporary dance. Adding a realistic touch is a projection design that paints a landscape filled with beauty and terror.

In the play, Hania, a Canadian woman reflects on fond memories of summers spent with her beloved Baba. In a chance discovery, she gains fresh insights into her Baba's struggles during the Second World War. Hania travels to her ancestral home, but is unprepared for the conflict's full impact.

Blood of Our Soil features Lianna Makuch, Oscar Derkx, Julia Guy, Maxwell Lebeuf, Tanya Pacholok and Larissa Pohoreski.

The production runs March 1 to 9 at Westbury Theatre at ATB Financial Arts Barns, 10330 - 84 Ave. Tickets are $17 to $22. Call 780-409-1910 or at http://tickets.fringetheatre.ca
