Injustices a woman faces
Studio Theatre director Beau Coleman has adapted Henrik Ibsen's classic masterpiece, The Dollhouse, which will run at the Timms Centre from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.
Many consider it a feminist play, a narrative about injustices done to women. Others see it as a humanist play where both women and men need to discover the kind of person they are.
In a quick synopsis Nora Helmer keeps a secret from Tom, her husband. What at first appears to be a blissful marriage, gradually reveals Nora as feeling trapped and unhappy.
Coleman's adaptation sets his production in 1957, a conduit for Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique that revealed housewives' frustrations, unhappiness and isolation. Tickets are $12 to $25. Call 780-492-2495 or purchase online at http://www.ualberta.ca/artshows
