Halloween concert
Noisy Theatre, a type of show developed for newborns to preschool children at the Arden Theatre, kicks off with Rattle and Strum on Wednesday, Oct. 31.Heather Blush and Steven Hazlett, a Calgary-based duo, create a whimsical, lighthearted performance that gets kids dancing, singing and having fun.
Back in May, the duo released their second album, Ants in My Pants. The child-friendly relatable songs include a call-and-response title song, the tango based Achoo! and a gooey Peanut Butter Song.
Rattle and Strum came to international attention after its first 15-track, self-titled album released in 2013 received the prestigious Parents’ Choice Gold Award.
“Our first album had more success than we expected. The Parents’ Choice Gold Award led to a lot of libraries in the United States purchasing our CD,” Blush said.
This stamp of approval also led to nominations at the Western Canadian Music Awards and the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
At the Arden concert Rattle and Strum plans a 45-minute show mixing songs from both albums. To develop that incredible sense of fun, Hazlett is also introducing some weird instruments.
“Because it’s Halloween, we’ll definitely incorporate a few fun Halloween songs. We want everyone to come and have a good time, and we want everyone dancing and having fun,” said Blush.
The show starts at 10 a.m. A free preschool activity starts at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 child and free for children under two years. Call 780-459-1542.
