The power of Eric Bibb
As a gifted tunesmith and storyteller, Eric Bibb’s songs deliver powerful stuff from beginning to end.The travelling troubadour, who calls Europe home, returns to the Arden Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 20 to promote his latest album, Migration Blues, recorded at Stony Plain Records.
Having travelled extensively throughout the world, he relishes exposure to different cultures, and the veteran artist delivers a strong sociopolitical message with clear-eyed vision in his 37th album.
Migration Blues delivers 11 original songs and three covers including Bob Dylan Masters of War, Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land and the traditional spiritual Mornin’ Train.
Bibb is particularly clever at connecting dots of oppression across the world. Refugee Moan is a cry for peace. Diego’s Blues describes the punishing life of Mexican migrants. Prayin’ for Shore looks at the tragic efforts of Africans to reach European shores while Four Years, No Rain deals with desperate refugees looking for relief from war and starvation.
Not for the faint of heart, Bibb’s work is compelling and charges the listener to think.
