Blueberry Bluegrass Fest

Widely acclaimed for its down-home hospitality, the Blueberry Bluegrass Festival is ready to host a full roster of roots musicians.

Taking place Aug. 3 to 5 in Stony Plain, it’s a full three days of main-stage shows, jams and workshops.

Musical highlights include bluegrass powerhouses Jeff Scoggins and Colorado, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, as well as The Travelin’ McCourys.

Far from being a one-note affair, the event's organizers have invited former Morinville fiddle champion Calvin Vollrath to lead the Friday night dance.

And St. Albert’s Jim and Penny Malmberg will play a couple of gigs of their one-of-a-kind blend of bluegrass, old-time swing, folk and jazz.

But at the heart of the festival is a series of jams ranging from hosted circles to spontaneous jams around the campfire. Everyone is invited to bring instruments and play, or just sit back and watch.

Century Casino wows

Led by founder and music director Geris Guanzon (former keyboardist and musical director for The Platters), the dynamic eight-piece group produces an act as good an any Las Vegas show.

Their hit list borrows from multiple luminaries including Whitney Houston, James Brown and AC/DC to Adele, Justin Bieber and Garth Brooks.

Showtime is 9 p.m. at 24 Boudreau Dr. Free.
