A rapper's rebirth

Roland “Rollie” Pemberton, better known by his stage name Cadence Weapon,  reintroduces himself to listeners with his 2018 self-titled album.

Released via e-One Music in January, it follows the rapper’s 2012 Hope in Dirt City album, which was nominated for a Polaris Music Prize.

The new 12-track brands Cadence Weapon with a fresh start and features appearances from art pop artist Deradoorian, electronic music duo Blue Hawaii, experimental musician Brendan Phillip and rapper Casey MQ.

Cadence heads to Europe in August and will mount a cross-country tour in the fall with a stop in Edmonton at The Buckingham on Oct. 4.

Check his Facebook page for ongoing details.

Soundtrack Music Festival

Edmonton is known throughout the province as “festival city,” and it’s no idle boast. Every year new events pop up, and this year it’s The Soundtrack Music Festival.

This one-day, multi-genre festival revives the 90’s musical vibe on Saturday, June 23 at Kinsmen Park in the heart of Edmonton’s historic river valley.

The inaugural festival features TLC, Goo Goo Dolls, Blind Melon, MA$E and Eve 6. The one-day show also hosts Wannabe (A Spice Girls Tribute), Notorious YEG (three male rappers) and Masta T as the event MC.

Gates open at 1 p.m. The $99 tickets are general admission, and are available at www.soundtrackmusicfestival.com.

The concert is a fundraiser organized by Kinsmen Club of Edmonton.
