Tom Jackson announces Huron Carole Tour
Actor, singer, philanthropist Tom Jackson spearheads the 29th year of The Huron Carole Tour with a stop at Edmonton’s Ramada Hotel on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
The Huron Carole is a project of the Christmas and Winter Relief Association that supports organizations doing hands-on work with the homeless and hungry.
The 14-stop cross-country tour takes place from St. John’s to Victoria for a night of breaking bread and barriers between those who need help and those who give.
Jackson will sing and tell the famous Christmas story of a homeless man’s journey from the darkness to the light. The show includes traditional, contemporary and signature music that Jackson believes “will release the spirit of Christmas into one’s heart.”
The local beneficiary of funds generated from the concert will be the Edmonton Food Bank. Tickets are available online at huroncarole.ca.
A love affair with planes
Ethel Wood was a young woman during the Second World War who lied about her age to get a job as a flight line mechanic. It was a job that proved a psychological minefield dealing with terrified student pilots receiving combat training.
Playwright Linda Wood crafted her mother’s story into Never Let the Crew See You Cry, a successful one-act that picked up rave reviews at the 2015 Edmonton Fringe Festival.
With its Bomb Girls styled aura, it detours from a traditionally male focused war story to how women dealt with issues on the home front and at work.
This award-winning production is being remounted Nov. 12 and 13 at Campus St. Jean with the original cast of Laura Raboud, Alex D. Mackie and former St. Albert actress Judy McFerran.
The campus is at 8406 Rue Marie-Anne Gaboury. Tickets are available at 780-420-1757 or at tixonthesquare.ca.
