Grammy Award winning Kenny Rogers, who has struggled with cancer in the past, is ready to hang up his guitar.

But the country and pop music icon is not leaving his fans wanting. Rogers is on The Gamblers Last Deal Tour and will play at Northlands Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 15.

His gift for storytelling, onstage charm and distinctive raspy voice often drenched in pain endeared him to millions of fans across the world.

Few recording artists command the charts with 24 number one hits including familiar tunes such as The Gambler, Lucille, Coward of the County, Islands in the Stream and Every Time Two Fools Collide.

Selling more than 120 million albums worldwide, he has won countless accolades including three Grammy Awards, 19 American Music Awards, 11 Peoples Choice Awards and eight Academy of Country Music Awards. And that’s just the tip of iceberg.

Tickets range from $79 to $99 plus service charges. Call 1-855-985-5000 or go to ticketmaster.ca.

Alberta Ballet’s artistic director Jean Grand-Maitre opens the company’s 50th anniversary season with the Canadian premiere of Shadowland, a collaborative creation from Pilobolus Dance Theatre.

Shadowland combines multi-media, projected shadow play and front-of-screen choreography in a wild evening of storytelling that has become a Pilobolus signature.

The plot follows a teenage girl transported by shadows skulking behind her bedroom wall to a dreamlike world of darkness and light.

Conceived with Steven Banks, lead writer for the playful animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, the 80-minute dance is propelled with a rhythmic score from composer David Poe.

Shadowland runs at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on Sept. 27 and 28. Tickets are $33 to $124. Visit albertaballet.com.
