The Arden Theatre’s special Noisy Theatre for children younger than five years kicks off the 2017 portion of the season with perennial favourite Sylvia Chave.
A hit at the International Children’s Festival Toddler Town, Singing With Sylvia is set to spread its wings for a morning show on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
For over 25 years, the Saskatchewan based, self-proclaimed Queen of the swing-set scene has invited munchkins to laugh and sing along with her.
Both energetic and interactive, Chave keeps the little ones on their feet dancing to the beat and boogying to her self-styled rhythms.
Using more costume changes than a pre-toilet-trained toddler, Chave charms both children and parents into wiggling and giggling through her shows.
The 45-minute Singing with Sylvia starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Arden Theatre, 5 St. Anne Street. Tickets are $10 adults and $5 for children two to 17 years. Children under two receive free admission. Call 780-459-1542 or at ticketmaster.ca.
Pro Coro Chamber Choir has discovered a popular following in their Missae Series featuring traditional settings of the mass.
The choir’s Missae IV is set for Sunday, Jan. 29 at All Saints Anglican Cathedral. The performance includes a special premiere by Pro Coro member Jane Berry.
Her piece is titled Mass for Recovery: Phoenix Rising written for and inspired by the composer’s mother as she recovered from delicate neurosurgery that at first left her completely paralyzed and speechless.
A second work includes Pro Coro alumnus John Hooper’s Sanctus alongside works from Philippe de Monte and Mendelssohn.
Directed by Michael Zaugg, the chamber choir also includes several St. Albert vocalists. They are sopranos Carole Kube and Gillian Brinston-Kurschat as well as bass Michael Kurschat.
The performance starts at 2:30 p.m. and the cathedral is at 10035 – 103 St. Regular admission is $30. Student/senior tickets are $25. Call 780-428-1414 or visit procoro.ca.
