Single release

Last Thursday, St. Albert country singer Hailey Benedict was nominated for Youth Artist Award at the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts. Unfortunately she didn’t receive it.

However, that same day Benedict released her third single, Crazy. During the arts celebration break, Benedict pulled out her cell and checked out the iTunes Top 100 country charts. She discovered Crazy had climbed to No. 66 top selling singles.

By Friday morning Crazy continued to inch upwards to No. 52 and Benedict reported it on Facebook.

“I’m really excited. It’s a fun, upbeat song. When it started charting, I freaked out. It’s just ‘crazy,’” she laughed.

Benedict’s music is available on a variety of platforms including iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music.

Glitzy musical comedy

MacEwan University opens with the musical City of Angels, a look at the glamorous, seductive Hollywood of the 1940s when film noir was at its peak.

A tough private eye with a weakness for beautiful women, a calculating stepmother, a wannabe screenplay writer, a polio-ridden war profiteer, a bitter cop and an army of Hollywood sycophants are thrown together in this musical potboiler.

Playing her part in this play within a play, St. Albert actor Basia Rogers is a member of the elaborate musical’s jazz quartet.

The show runs March 21 to 31 at the Triffo Theatre in Allard Hall, 11110 – 104 Ave. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Call 780-497-4470 or at [email protected].
