It may only be January, however directors Cory Christensen and Carolyn Zahovskis are already releasing an acting call for the St. Albert Theatre Troupe's Night of One Acts opening April 27.

The Night of One Acts features three shows: Jeffrey Hatcher's Three Viewings, David Ives' Sure Thing and Le Wilhelm's The Power and The Glory.

In Hatcher's Three Viewings, a funeral parlor is the setting for three playlets laced with dark humour. One story hinges on the private thoughts of a mortician.

The second is about a female con who steals jewelry from corpses and the third tale is about a widowed matron who finds her shady businessman husband has left her destitute.

The second play Sure Thing is a boy-meets-girl comedy that plays with time and the third, The Power and The Glory, looks at two female friends as they challenge their self-worth while riding a glass elevator.

Actors need to bring a headshot, a bio of theatrical experience and prepare an assigned cut from Three Viewings.

Auditions are Jan. 24 and 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive. Callbacks are Jan. 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

For more information call Christensen at 780-910-2723 or email [email protected].

Never let it be said Alberta Ballet doesn't have a sense of humour. The Calgary-based company is bringing Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo to Edmonton's Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on Jan. 17 and 18.

The Trocks, an all-male comedic dance troupe, have braved bruises and blisters of pointe shoes for more than 40 years performing parodies of classical ballet.

They are definitely a ballet company that performs in drag, but first and foremost they are a ballet company that excels at humorous athleticism.

This show-stopping visit is part of an international tour that includes cities across North America, Spain, Italy, Finland and Japan.

Tickets are $15 to $124. To order visit www.albertaballet.com.
