Although still a relatively young program, the St. Albert Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts Awards is at the forefront of recognizing its inhabitants’ creative talents.
The next series of awards will be presented on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Enjoy Centre in partnership with Night of Artists.
To make the evening a success, the awards committee is extending the nomination deadline until Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
Do you know a family member, friend, neighbour or even an acquaintance who has dedicated their life to finding meaning and creating beauty through the arts? Nominate them. Artists can also submit their own names.
Worthy recipients, with the exception of Corporate Patron of the Arts, will receive a $1,000 cash prize. Beneficiaries in every category will also take home an original piece of art by a St. Albert artist.
There are eight categories. Four awards encompass artists at varying stages of their careers in addition to a teaching award and an arts leadership award. Community arts groups and corporate patrons of the arts are also recognized.
The Youth Artist Award encourages individuals in any arts discipline between the ages of 13 and 21 whereas the Emerging Artist Award recognizes people who are just starting to develop name recognition.
The Established Artist Award is designed for individuals reaching the pinnacle of their career whereas the Lifetime Achievement Award salutes an artist’s lifetime commitment and his/her extensive body of work.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recipient will also be honoured for the mastery of his/her craft by becoming the annual inductee into the Cultural Hall of Fame.
The Excellence in Arts Teaching Award gives a nod to the essential role teachers and instructors play in developing and transmitting a passion for the arts.
Individuals nominated for the Arts Leadership Award must demonstrate a certain guidance or management in the growth of local arts.
Instead the Community Arts Group focuses on a group or organization that performs locally has provided an ongoing commitment to the arts.
And finally the Corporate Patron of the Arts applauds a business or foundation that is actively involved in the arts either through financial support, staff or volunteer support.
