You have to hand it to the organizers of the Amplify Festival. They really know to lighten up the end of summer.
Nearly two full months before the festival is set to take place, they have put together Illuminate – Enlighten the Night, a great night of art in the park for all of its youthful target audience and the best part isn’t that it’s free. The best part is that there is so much to see and do during the event filled with youth art, poetry and music. It’s enough to make you want to be young again.
“Art can be in many different kinds of forms. We have dance art. We have poetry. Storytelling. Art with pictures and paints,” said Amplify Youth Committee member Amanda Magyar.
“There’s lots of light that’s going to illuminate the paths. There’s going to be chalk art, photography art, there’s going to be a photo booth, an art battle, there’s going to be some busking musicians there as well and a poetry nook with different poetries of different kinds in the trees. It’s going to be super exciting and super cool.”
Filled with their passion for art, youth and for the community of St. Albert as a whole, the committee put the idea together as a way of celebrating the end of summer in the best way possible. People of all ages are invited to come out to participate on the last Saturday evening of August.
In addition to being a way of doing and seeing so much art of so many varieties, it will also be a great way for youths to experience the city’s larger art family, Magyar said
“It’s meant for youth in the community of St. Albert to get more engaged and interact more with art, and get to know the art community a little bit more. We’ve never done anything like this before. It’s going to be super fun.”
Illuminate runs on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Kingswood Day Use park. It’s a free event and no pre-registration is required.
The Amplify Festival is set to take place in October. More details on that are expected to be announced soon.
