Following a condensed season with a series of postponements, the Arden Theatre is cautiously unveiling a return to the stage with four exciting concerts geared to launch the 2022-23 season.
With a renewed commitment to staging Canadian acts, professional programming presenter for The City of St. Albert Caitlin North kicks off the series with Crash Test Dummies on Friday, Sept. 16. The Winnipeg rock band achieved mainstream commercial success with the release of The Ghosts That Haunt Me in 1991.
Although the band disbanded from 2006 to 2012, four of the original members have re-grouped to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghosts. Brad Roberts, Ellen Reid, Dan Roberts, and Mitch Dorge will travel on an extensive North American and European tour playing fan favourites from their eight-album catalogue.
“We had no idea that fans would be so enthusiastic, and we are a little gob smacked that we can still play sold-out shows to our fans and, awesomely enough, their kids,” said Reid.
Serena Ryder, a folk/rock artist, drops by for a double bill on Oct. 7 and 8. The vocal powerhouse, with a bluesy vein to her music, has been lauded for raw and earnest songwriting as well as electric live performances.
The award-winning recording artist’s 2021 retro-inspired The Art of Falling Apart was released during COVID. The music is catchy, soulful, and chronicles her struggles with mental illness and sobriety. It is a journey through heartbreak and hope, loss, and love, and finding wisdom along the way.
David Myles, a favourite of St. Albert audiences, once more showcases his cocktail of folk, pop, and soul on Oct. 19. He has been described as somewhere between James Taylor and Justin Timberlake. As a singer-songwriter who has embraced both vintage and modern soundscapes, Myles crafts crisp pop melodies and timeless rock’n roll swivelers.
His nine-track That Tall Distance captured the 2022 Juno Award as Instrumental Album of the Year, and he has just released a new single, Mystery. Not only is Myles an award-winning artist with a dominant international following, he’s a true troubadour who spins yarns and unforgettable stories to entertain the crowds.
Not to be forgotten, The Bros. Landreth drop by just prior to Halloween on Oct. 27. The long-time sibling collaborators have knocked the ball out of the park with their Juno-winning blend of American roots music. The duo just released their latest album, Come Morning, on May 13. To support the 10-track, they are on a major tour across the United States, Europe, and Canada.
Packed with harmony-heavy folk, rock, and soul, they’ve won critical acclaim from a legion of fans including musical idols such as Bonnie Raitt.
“I haven’t liked a band as much as The Bros. Landreth in a long time. To hear this kind of funky, southern-style rock played with such originality and soul will knock you out,” said Raitt.
