Attention music festival junkies. When summer comes, the Edmonton Rock Music Festival lays out the best of outdoor entertainment.

As humanists and artists of the written word, authors are also well known for having a soft spot for charities. That’s why Rick Lauber and Alison Neuman have joined forces to once again put on a special event at Audreys Books next weekend.

The 34th Edmonton International Fringe Festival is running full-throttle. Tickets went on sale yesterday for 200 plus shows running Aug. 13 to 23 at Old Strathcona.

On the surface, naming a band after the science fiction alpha predator Godzilla is a bit corny. However, it hasn’t hurt Rockzilla, a three-piece act whose tag line reads like a metalhead bio.

Things are getting fluid at the Art Gallery of St. Albert and a bit on the big side too. Patricia Coulter and Donna Marchyshyn-Shymko each created a series of large-scale, fluid acrylic works for Verve, the newest exhibit to hit the public gallery space. Coulter uses the medium to bold effect with sweeping, energetic visuals that are reminiscent of ribbon dancers.

Traditionally Rock ’n August’s Friday Night Car Cruise steers crowds to St. Anne Street for a show and street dance.

The good news is that donations were way up at the St. Albert Food Bank in July.

Reid Maxwell was riding high at the kick-off to K-Days two weeks ago. Really high. That’s because he was on a parade float but he didn’t let the party atmosphere belie the seriousness of his message to other kids his age.
