“Ink your legend, wear your strength,” is the motto of founder and owner Marina Volk.

Max Color Ink empowers those looking to transform their visions into breathtaking works of art. Renowned across Alberta for their artistry in realism, fine lines, floral, and traditional tattoos, this studio has become a top destination for ink enthusiasts and first timers alike. “Ink your legend, wear your strength,” is the motto of founder and owner Marina Volk. She knows that for many, tattoos are a way to express oneself, affirm identity, empower, and heal.

“I had a personal passion for tattoos as an art form with an ability to heal mental wounds, alongside a desire to make a meaningful impact by becoming integral parts of our communities, enriching the local cultural landscape and serving as a hub for artistic expression,” she says.

Volk continues, “I know that tattoos are a form of therapy. We have clients whose therapists suggest they get tattoos as part of their healing journey. In many cases, tattoos help people manage grief or inner pain.”

She designed the studio to be open, airy, comfortable, and collaborative – and there is a private room dedicated to a special tattoo need.

“We do restorative 3D nipple tattoos for women who underwent mastectomy and have trouble accepting their bodies without nipples. Research suggests that this service improves confidence and helps women love their bodies once more.”

On a personal level, Volk understands what women go through when faced with breast cancer.

“While there is a financing program in place for this and other tattoos, I am working with my lenders right now towards a 0 per cent financing model. It is in development, so you need to stay tuned, but the goal is to make the benefits of our services as accessible as possible.”

Volk prides herself on the diversity of her team, which includes four other women and two men.

“We are a diverse, talented group of artists who strive to provide an outstanding customer experience,” she says. “In addition to our team, we have hosted guest artists from Bulgaria, Mexico, and Italy, and we plan to invite more.”

She adds, “The tattoo industry, traditionally male-dominated, has seen a surge of talented female artists and business owners creating welcoming, safe, and inclusive spaces. Women in this field often emphasize custom art, emotional storytelling through tattoos, and building supportive communities. Many women in business navigate the challenge of balancing career growth with personal responsibilities; but nevertheless, women in business have been breaking barriers and reshaping industries for decades, bringing innovation, leadership, and resilience to the entrepreneurial world.”

For many, tattoos are a way to heal, commemorate, empower, and express. Max Color Ink understands this.
