Our beloved mother, Edith, went to her permanent residence in Heaven on May 4, 2024 at the age of 91. Her faith sustained her from childhood, and she is glad to shed her earthly body, reunite with those who have gone before her and take up any heavenly work. For the last 11 years of her life, dementia slowly erased her short-term memories and her ability to communicate.  She retained her sweetness and gratitude for the kindness of family, friends and caregivers as her condition progressed. She found comfort in family photos, music and the daily visits of her husband until his death two years ago and her eldest son after his passing.

In her lifetime, Edith loved the enduring friendships she made as the Primmer family moved from Kenora, where she grew up, to Winnipeg, Edmonton, Minnedosa, Flin Flon, Regina and then to St. Albert in 1976. Many of our family memories relate to her excellence in baking, sewing, gardening and fashion.  As her children grew in independence, Edith acquired a sales position at a high-end women’s fashion store, where she was an occasional patron- landing a job when she remarked to the owner one day that she wouldn’t mind working there.  Edith remained in clothing sales for almost ten years.  At about the same time as Edith commenced this work, husband Charley was contemplating retirement; and he soon acquired the chores of having the evening meal ready when Edith finished her day. Edith remarked many times about how much pleasure and joy there was in helping women find clothes that suited them.

In her husband’s words “Edith was a terrific marriage partner for 62 years; managing their home, children and husband-services for which Edith was underpaid and overworked. Charles was fortunate Edith loved her husband even after he was fully depreciated.”

Edith was predeceased by her cherished husband Charley and her son Dean, her parents and two brothers, Eyvind and Peter.  She is survived by three children, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and one sister, Alice Jardine of Kenora.

Her family is extremely grateful to the staff of Citadel Care for their dedicated care over many years.

Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
