1927 – 2024

It is with a sense of peace and deep sadness that we say “au revoir” for now, to our wonderful sister, aunt, friend, who passed away March 30, 2024 at the age of 96 years.

Raised in a loving faith filled home, with parents Leo and Elmire Belhumeur, Mimi was the third eldest in a family of nine children.

Left to mourn her passing are siblings: Denise Belland, Thérèse Kelly, Bernard (Carmen) Belhumeur, and Jeannette (Dave Symbaluk); and sister-in-law Grace Belhumeur.

Mimi will also be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a number of close friends.

She was predeceased by her sisters: Laura & Elisabeth; and brothers: Rod and Authur, brothers-in-law: Albert Henry, Maurice Kelly, Ron Davies, André Belland; and sister-in-law Joan Belhumeur.

The first 30 years of her adult life were spent between Québec and Alberta serving in religious life, as a scholar and teacher. Later Mimi chose to return to secular life whereby she furthered her studies and was subsequently employed as a  senior administrator at the Université de Québec.  In 1970, her desire to be back with family, drew her back west permanently to her St. Albert roots. Her new employment began at the University of Alberta, Campus Saint Jean.  After her retirement, Mimi immersed herself in countless days and hours of service and volunteered with the Arden Theatre and her beloved St. Albert Parish.  Her zest for life was reflected in her love of people and for world travel. She was also known for her love of music coupled with a beautiful singing voice; which made her a wonderful addition to several choirs throughout her life.

Mimi was a source of wisdom, guidance, and love for those who knew her.

Cremation has taken place, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 11 at 2:00pm in St. Albert Catholic Church, 7 St. Vital Ave.

Donations can be made to Oblate World Missions St. Peter’s Mission Church, 6056 Ninth Line, Mississauga, ON, L5N 0C1.

A sincere thank you to the staff of Covenant Care and Foyer Youville Home for the kindness and attention that Mimi received while in their care.
