In response to the letter to the editor: "Mother’s Day is more important than International Women’s Day" (Randy Ellis, Gazette, March 17):

While I agree with Mr. Ellis’ sentiments that a stay at home parent does work and usually does not get the recognition they deserve that is where our agreement stops.

International Women’s Day is about striving for gender parity and changing stereotypes of where a woman’s place is. It’s celebrating the achievements of women in social, economic, cultural and political areas. A woman’s worth is not attached to her ability to have or raise children!

It is 2018, family dynamics have changed drastically from a stay at home mother and working father. What about stay at home fathers? Single parent or co-parenting homes? Same sex partnerships? Double income families? Or women who enjoy being a mother as well as having a career?

I hope to raise my daughter with the freedom of choice, that she will have every opportunity in life to achieve whatever her dreams are.
