Why bother to ask, if you’re not going to listen?

During the last election, the previous council went through the “futile motion” of asking the residents of St. Albert (their employer) where they wanted their tax dollars focused.

Unfortunately, even though the message was very clear (a library was not a “high priority” item), council, in its great wisdom of knowing better than its voters what citizens see as vital needs (swimming and ice facilities), has decided to invest a substantial amount of money in additional library space.

Coun. MacKay called the storefront library “a creative response” to the community’s library needs. Be honest, Coun. MacKay ... the storefront library is merely council’s “creative wording” to fund the very thing the residents emphatically said should not be considered as a priority at this time.

Shame on you and the majority of your fellow councillors!

In the future, may I respectfully request that council does not insult the citizens of St. Albert by asking them for their opinion.

Leona Hodge, St. Albert
