Welcome Mayor Heron's Facebook straw poll

I want to give kudos to Mayor Cathy Heron on a job well done. Her online poll about the rainbow crosswalk ( Gazette , May 12) was exactly what we all wanted, a chance to voice our opinions and be heard by our elected officials.

I want to give kudos to Mayor Cathy Heron on a job well done. Her online poll about the rainbow crosswalk (Gazette, May 12) was exactly what we all wanted, a chance to voice our opinions and be heard by our elected officials.

She asked about the idea of a crosswalk, and got around two-thirds of people wanting it. A clear message. But many people vocally expressed concern about the cost of the project. Another clear message.

The chance to give our feedback means that the two-thirds got their crosswalk and those concerned also got their way; the city isn't paying a penny for this crosswalk to be painted. Everyone wins.

I hope she continues with these polls, gathering input and responding to the feedback she gets. I also love her Facebook Live broadcasts, another sign that this mayor wants to be connected to her residents. She's really showing how to do "mayor" the right way.
