Finally, the lack of adequate pool space is going to be on St. Albert Council’s radar. I have made this public knowledge on several occasions through this newspaper. However because 200 people demanded a new library and I am not sure how many others asked for more ice space, the 2,000 rejected requests for children to have swimming lessons will once more have to take a number at the back of the queue.
Yes, we need another pool! The one we have at Fountain Park is bursting at the seams. Its condition is poor. Still haven’t got the water heating fixed – but we’ve got lots of electronic information boards.
Can we not ask one of the many developers to put a swimming pool in one of the housing developments? They have made a great deal of money building homes – how wonderful if one of them provided St. Albert with a real legacy – it could have their name on it for posterity! We encourage young families to live here but do not provide adequate amenities – a pool is a source of pleasure and swimming is not only a worthy exercise but is a safety essential. Further, no matter what the weather people can stay active!
Just because these disappointed parents did not make a formal complaint, now that we officially know about the problem, let council actively start exploring ways and means to make another pool happen. As I have suggested before can it be part of a regional initiative? There is a regional council that is attended by our representatives.
Yes, I know, there are going to be complaints because we have Servus Place – but that pool cannot effectively be used for lessons – it is our own white elephant (or whale). We do have lots of ice space there. Maybe we could turn one of them into a pool – oh I forgot, we need more ice space!
Sincerely floundering,
Liz Allchin, St. Albert
