Walking to school will do kids a world of good

I read the commentary by Jennifer Hamilton in the Aug. 22 edition of the Gazette (“Respect Your Neighbours”) and wondered does she live on or near Fawcett Crescent because it sounded just like what we have to put up with.

We do live on Fawcett Crescent and can totally relate to her concerns. Our boys always walked to school – first to Leo Nickerson Elementary then in junior high to Lorne Akins and when they went to high school, to Paul Kane. Not a big deal to walk to school. Certainly didn’t seem to hurt them in the least, they got some exercise and spent time with friends.

Whatever happened to walking to school, we did it. Our kids did it. Have the kids today become too lazy or too entitled? I just don’t get it.

But if you must drive your children to school for whatever reason, then at least respect our neighbourhood and our speed limits.

And thank you, Jennifer, for your commentary.
