I am a Grandin area resident and live close to Albert Lacombe School. I often walk near there and was pleased to see the school project — growing a small garden outside.
I smiled to myself every time I walked by as I could see in my mind's eye enthusiastic youngsters getting their hands dirty, working hard and watching the fruits of their labour come to life and grow. I also remember commenting to my daughter one day as we walked by, "I hope nobody vandalizes that nice garden." I have to say that I was very disappointed when I sat down and read about that exact thing happening.
To the person or persons responsible for this senseless act — you should be ashamed of yourself. If you want to destroy things, stay home, overturn your own garden (or your family's or your grandparents), steal your own nice things that you have worked for and spray paint your own house and fence — just stop doing it to others. I'm not a proponent of vigilantes but something has to be done to deter people from doing things like this.
I would implore anyone who has any information about this despicable crime to call the RCMP. I hope whoever is responsible for this is proud of destroying elementary children's hard work. You make my skin crawl.
