Utility costs, the election and being a privileged city employee

Explanations of why we have to pay so much for utilities in St Albert fall way short. There seems to be no need for transparency by the mayor or city council.

Explanations of why we have to pay so much for utilities in St Albert fall way short. There seems to be no need for transparency by the mayor or city council. With this cash grab they have mandated how do we know when the funds get diverted to certain councillors’ pet projects such as art and bison? Were the taxpayers asked if these funds could be diverted? As stated by others, this city might want to wake up to the fact that economically things are not all roses in this province financially. One more burning question, that “waste water” construction by the Village Landing bus area, is that a permanent make work project? Perhaps it should have been tendered out to a company that isn't going to make it a five-year project.

Which then leads into the election and one reader’s comments thanking us for voting. You are welcome. It was time for a change, we got it, it is here, now deal with it. You tear apart the new ones but let’s take a look at what may have been. A repeat of the same old that I never saw any useful movement from, and a new guy on the block who, one would think; if your business is a success you wouldn't have to try out for politics. The change is here, let’s see what happens.

Then back to the city. Ethically and morally it has always been the norm that when you apply for a great position with a city and you are a council member at the same time for that city, you resign. As usual the rules of fair and doing what is right seem to not apply here. Once again shaking my head at what happens in this city.

J. Ritchie, St. Albert
