Utilities have many extra fees

In response to Mrs. Louise Height’s letter: “Water rate increase seems overstated (Gazette, July 1). You are absolutely right: the charge per CU MTR of water has not gone up considerably since 2011.

In response to Mrs. Louise Height’s letter: “Water rate increase seems overstated (Gazette, July 1).

You are absolutely right: the charge per CU MTR of water has not gone up considerably since 2011. As a matter of fact, it was higher in 2005. I am also a senior living alone in a bungalow.

But that is not what most people are talking about in St. Albert nowadays.

2005: Water Consumption: 11 CU MTRS:

Water flat rate: $12

Water consumption: $ 9.10

Pay as you throw flat rate: $ 7.30

Pay as throw one bag: $ 5.90

Sewer flat rate: $17

Storm sewer flat rate: $10.40

Sewer treatment 80%: $8.85

Total: $70.56

2011 Water Consumption 12 CU MTRS:

Water flat rate: $17.00

Water consumption: $13.74

Pay as you throw flat rate: $8.00

Pay as throw one bag: $4.40

Sewer flat rate: $17.00

Storm sewer flat rate: $19.68

Curbside recycling: $11.00

Sewer treatment 80%: $14.94

Total: $105.76

2015: Water consumption: 12 CU MTRS:

Water flat rate: $19.52

Water consumption: $19.20

Pay as you throw flat rate: $14.26

Pay as throw one bag: $2.12

Sewer flat rate: $19.52

Storm sewer flat rate: $31.58

Supp. Capital Contribution Water: $23.26

Wastewater Treatment 80%: $19.39

Supp. Capital Contribution – Wastewater: $7.18

Supp. Capital Contribution – Storm: $10.18

Curbside Recycling: $9.80

Curbside Organics – 240 Litres: $11.44

Supp. Capital Contribution- Solid Waste: $7.00

And that is what people in St. Albert are talking about:

That certainly has nothing to do with fittings or fixtures or any sort of wasteful usage of water!
