Two councillors showing true leadership

Disillusioned and disappointed would be my assessment of city council over the past three decades that I have lived in St. Albert. I now see hope on the horizon. During the 2013 municipal election campaign I assisted Cam MacKay and Sheena Hughes.

Disillusioned and disappointed would be my assessment of city council over the past three decades that I have lived in St. Albert. I now see hope on the horizon.

During the 2013 municipal election campaign I assisted Cam MacKay and Sheena Hughes. While delivering flyers, talking to residents and hearing their responses, I heard time and again these comments: Who can I trust, will my concerns matter, can these candidates really get my taxes and utilities lowered?”

My response: These candidates will fight for you, will stand behind their election promises and will act with honesty and courage.

Iona Kennedy (Gazette, March 8) and Jim/Carol Price (Gazette, March 12) are spot on. I wholeheartedly concur with their views. Viewing city council meetings live or reading Gazette reports afterwards, one thing is glaringly obvious: Couns. MacKay and Hughes do their research, ask pointed and pertinent questions, challenge the status quo and often pay the price.

Yes, their proposals get defeated more often than not. Yet they continue to stand up, speak up and refuse to be shut up or shut out. That, in my opinion, is true democracy.

That is true leadership.

Cam and Sheena, it is an honour to have you represent the citizens of St. Albert. I salute you!

Leah Delage, St. Albert
