It has been reported that Tim Hortons has dropped the “Enbridge Ads” because of the company’s support of a “Petition Against Pipelines.”
There is not a “drop of oil” or a “cubic metre of gas” that has not been transported by pipelines in the life cycle of exploration, production, refining, distribution and marketing of oil/natural gas. If you truly believe your decision is right, appropriate and responsible, then Tim Hortons should “Walk your Talk” and refrain from using any products that in their manufacturing, distribution and marketing used “pipelines”.
As a start it should immediately undertake the following actions:
Disconnect from the pipelines that provide natural gas to heat its retail outlets and used in food preparation operations;
Cease operations of its truck distribution systems that use diesel or other petroleum base products;
Stop using any electrical power, which is generated from natural gas, oil or other sources such as coal, hydro etc., which in their construction or operations used petroleum products;
Eliminate all plastic cutlery, Styrofoam and paper products which in their manufacturing and distribution process utilized petroleum products;
Advise all employees to refrain from using automobiles or any public transportation powered by petroleum products;
Remove all asphalt paving from parking lots as oil is an integral part of the production of asphalts;
Refrain from using any agricultural products i.e. wheat, barley, oats etc. which were produced using farm equipment that was gasoline/diesel driven (horses only);
Refrain from using automobiles, airplanes, trains and buses for personal and business travel;
No petroleum-based synthetic fabric clothing for Tim Hortons executives or their staff as well as any natural fibres such as cotton and wool etc. manufactured or distributed using petroleum operated equipment;
Eliminate all computers and equipment which in their manufacturing process and facilities used petroleum products for construction, operations, heating, air conditioning and product distribution;
Eliminate all cell phones as they and their systems would not exist without oil pipelines;
If Tim Hortons is prepared to undertake the above then it will “Walk your Talk.” If it does not undertake the above actions then the least it should do is comply with its own stated “Standards of Business Practices” and “Knowing and doing what is right and fair” and apologize to Enbridge and the many thousands of Canadian oil and pipeline workers who have supported Tim Hortons and contributed to make it a “Canadian Business Success Story”
I suggest that Tim Hortons not be unduly influenced and taken in by the misguided and misinformed hypocrites who advocate policies that are completely unsustainable while at the same time live their comfortable and excessive lives utilizing and benefiting from “oil pipelines” that contribute in creating the highest standards of living on earth.
“They also do not “Walk their Talk.”
