This constant battle of duelling arguments is boring

I’m very fond of the Gazette in almost every way. But I’m starting to strongly dislike the Your Views section. Week after week, the same people rehash issues and “clarify” their stances, rebut their opposition and bore the rest of us to tears.

I’m very fond of the Gazette in almost every way.  But I’m starting to strongly dislike the Your Views section. Week after week, the same people rehash issues and “clarify” their stances, rebut their opposition and bore the rest of us to tears. I read the names, roll my eyes and skip the section.

While it might seem important to poke holes in another person’s argument, you aren’t actually convincing anyone if that is indeed your goal. Instead you publicly display a mind closed to other viewpoints. The end result is polarization, which is the scourge of intellectual discussions.

Would it be too much to ask the Gazette editorial board, that you decide on some type of limit to the back and forth? Let’s say a letter, its responses and one rebuttal? Three strikes, er … papers, and you’re out!
