After that hefty dump of snow that fell Jan. 26, if you were anything like me, come nightfall you were probably nestled in your cosy bed, grateful to be indoors on such a brutal night. However there are a group of dedicated, selfless individuals who leave their warm nests after a heavy snow fall and have been providing a community service to those of us who cross-country ski.
Each winter, this group of volunteer groomers spend hours in the dead of night out at Riverlot 56 and Red Willow Park, creating beautifully groomed tracks so that those of us who enjoy this fabulous sport, awake to a postcard-perfect winter scene. Our group on Saturday had a spectacular ski and those we met on the trails all agreed, how incredibly blessed we are to have such a crew of generous, committed and hard-working groomers.
So the next time you are skimming along on those precision trails and you come across any of the groomers from the Stanski Ski Club – such as Rob Campbell, Ken Reniak, Hugh Rutherford, Glen Cowper and so many more who have given tirelessly to our community over the years – be sure to tip your toque in appreciation for their dedicated services.
