Thanks to city crew for rescue of ducklings

Thank you to the City of St. Albert’s public works department for sending Rob and Jordan (storm sewer crew) out on June 20 to rescue six mallard ducklings that fell into the storm sewer under Ray Gibbons Drive.

Sadly the mother duck guarding over them was hit by a car. The rescue was no easy task as the ducklings were in the sewer pipe under the road between two sewer openings. The crew used its basket equipment and a great deal of skill and patience to rescue them one by one. The ducklings are now in the care of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton (WRSE) and are doing well.

I appreciate the city’s quick action in sending staff out to help me. Rob and Jordan deserve a big pat on the back for being so kind-hearted and determined.
