The Community Refugee Committee of St Albert (CSCRA) wishes to thank the generous members of the public who attended our successful fundraiser, “We’ve Got Talent” on Nov. 15. The committee raised $1,547 towards sponsoring a refugee family.
Master of Ceremonies Mayor Nolan Crouse reminded us that it is through efforts like this one – where community members join together to hear music from different cultures and learn to appreciate each other as people – that will assist with accomplishing world peace.
The event was an informal, family event held in St. Albert United Church with the help of local, amateur musicians. The choice of piece was left up to the individual vocalists and instrumentalists, with a wide diversity from The Animals to Handel to Bollywood and the Department of Ethnomusicology from the University of Alberta.
By the time the Syrian music was presented at the end of the show and the belly dancers came out for the encore, we all felt like getting up on our feet to join them. Don't miss our next concert in April 2017.
