I would like to thank the parent who took the time and consideration to write a letter (Gazette, May 13) acknowledging their child's teacher for their efforts and extra support for their special needs child. I have no connection to said teacher but I was moved by this public display. It is too often in this day and age that teachers are put under a negative microscope in terms of their practice as professional educators.
As an elementary teacher, I have encountered some amazing and supportive parents but I have also observed a growing distrust for teachers and an overall crippling of the relationship between parents and teachers in our schools. The end goal is the edification and success of the student and I thank you Rodney and Catherine Dietzmann for publicizing your teacher’s efforts to support your child. You have done an amazing job of highlighting and praising the positive potential for effective parent/teacher relationships. You have modelled and highlighted a foundational and supportive parent/teacher relationship that is truly an example of success for your child. This is a gift to hear as we come to the end of another school year.
Many thanks as you have shed a positive light on a difficult week of teaching!
