On behalf of The War Amps, I would like to thank reporter Scott Hayes for his excellent article, "Play safe, Reid Maxwell advises,” Gazette, Aug. 1.
As a Safety Ambassador for our Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, Reid rode on board our play safe/drive safe float in the Edmonton K-Days parade. This year’s theme Mean Machines, was depicted on the colourful, animated float, which had special focus on lawn mowers. Reid and his fellow Champs passed on the message to youngsters to "spot the danger before they play" and also reminded parents to drive safe! Many Champs have lost limbs in accidents that could have been prevented and know all too well the consequences of unsafe play.
Our many programs and services for amputees are funded through public support of The War Amps Key Tag and Address Label Service. Your coverage will go a long way in helping to spread the word.
