Tax dollars do not grow on trees

The one factor in this that seems to escape a lot of people’s thinking and as stated in the commentary is " but the garden's full costs should be paid and built." Is there a magic money tree somewhere within city hall that grows money for these projects?

Stating "City hall needs to pay" isn't quite right, the reality of the situation is every taxpayer in St. Albert pays for these things. We don't appear to have much say anymore in where our tax dollars are spent and a lot of it has been spent on things that people do not agree with. The original cost was high and the updated cost is unacceptable to be coming out of tax dollars when so many other things in this city need attention like basic infrastructure, road maintenance, etc. Those that can't see past their rose-coloured glasses might want to really think where the money actually comes from to pay for these things.

Acknowledge the wrong-doing yes, at an exorbitant price tag, no.

Until those money-growing trees are growing in everyone’s back yards this city council needs to put the brakes on spending.

J. Ritchie, St. Albert
