Sturgeon River needs a weed harvester

In my opinion one of St. Albert's greatest natural attractions is the Big Lake-Sturgeon River waterway. Its natural beauty can be enjoyed year-round. As an avid kayaker I've come to enjoy this waterway each summer.

In my opinion one of St. Albert's greatest natural attractions is the Big Lake-Sturgeon River waterway. Its natural beauty can be enjoyed year-round.

As an avid kayaker I've come to enjoy this waterway each summer. That is until the "Surgin' Sturgeon" becomes the "stinky Sturgeon sewer"; and this year, the weed infestation has choked it earlier than some. Why do we let it become a midsummer eyesore?

I would encourage city administration to consider acquiring/renting a weed harvester similar to those used to clear the inlet channels to the Lake Wabamun power plants. Just clearing a central channel down the river from Ray Gibbon Drive through the city to the botanical garden would be welcomed by all my fellow boaters and encourage citizens to make better use of this valuable natural resource. Please give this some creative thought.
