Mayor Heron needs to get her priorities straight

Regarding the article “Mayor slams pot plan” (St. Albert Gazette, Oct. 17).

Perhaps our esteemed mayor could explain why we need more money to police a substance that was recently legalized? How can it be possible we need to spend MORE money on marijuana than we did when it was illegal? People were smoking all over St. Albert in the months and years leading up to this day, without any problems, but now we need to spend millions for what exactly? To write people tickets for smoking a joint in a park?

Perhaps if the $100,000 annually we stand to receive from the province isn’t enough, we could scrap the ridiculous seniors council that was recently given $50,000 to pander to – sorry, consult with seniors. The same seniors who show up to vote and are engaged in city politics at levels not seen in any other demographic.

Stop wasting money enforcing ridiculous bylaws and creating useless councils and maybe try to save a few cents for a rainy day. Please.

Braden Morrison, St. Albert
