After living in St. Albert since 1978 we have experienced garbage collection issues that began as soon as we moved in. Coming from Edmonton we assumed garbage collection was simple, put it by the garbage bin and it was taken away every week, no matter what it was or how it was packaged. St. Albert was different then and remains very backward 40 years later. Over the years the waste collectors rule books have gotten more detailed and the administration of the rules more bizarre, to the point of St. Albert hiring garbage inspectors. We have now relocated to Penticton where waste collection is backed by common sense. I just witnessed a garbage worker exit the truck and walk up to bins the owner forgot to bring to the curb, and empty them. Household waste is picked up weekly, recycle and yard waste every other week, Styrofoam recycling at the dump, and most important, no little pink sticker on the bin because it didn't perfectly match the garbage rule book. City of St.Albert has always missed the mark on waste collection. Terry and Lesley Gierulski, St. Albert
