St. Albert stepped up to the boot

As I sit on top of fire station No. 2 watching donations still come in at 9:30 at night, I am in awe of how the citizens of St. Albert have supported our Muscular Dystrophy Roof Top Campout.

As I sit on top of fire station No. 2 watching donations still come in at 9:30 at night, I am in awe of how the citizens of St. Albert have supported our Muscular Dystrophy Roof Top Campout.

Today alone we raised over $12,000 with almost every dime coming from cars pulling onto the driveway at fire station No. 2 and putting a donation in the boot. Not only did we appreciate the donation from each and every one of you, we are also so grateful for the honks, waves, smiles and positive words of encouragement you gave all of us.

As a firefighter, we unfortunately see and deal with negative events that stay with us our entire lives. Thanks to all of you, we now have this positive event that will also stay with us the rest of our lives. One of my best memories from this week was when a school bus just stopped on the road in front of the station and I was invited onto the bus to find a busload of kids all wanting to donate money to this cause. As I walked down the aisle, each kid put money into the boot. If this is any indication of what our next generation is going to be like, this city will continue to be Alberta’s finest city.

On behalf of the seven of us that camped out this week and each and every member of the St. Albert Firefighters Union, we thank the citizens of St. Albert for both your financial support and your overwhelming support of our department. It truly is an honour to wear the City of St. Albert Fire Department uniform and serve the citizen of this great city.

Scott Wilde, President, St. Albert Fire Fighters Union
