I sure hope that St. Albert city council and administration are paying attention to Edmonton's adoption of smart traffic lights that have been proven to reduce travel time by 25 per cent, idling by over 40 per cent, and vehicle emissions by 21 per cent.
The lights work by adapting to traffic conditions in real time and send messages to other connected signals to adapt the pattern before major waves of traffic arrive.
Traffic management is our community's largest issue and greatest blunder. Hopefully, our council is exploring all options to improve the quality of life of our citizens, reduce daily stress levels, and rectify the environmental harm caused by idling.
