Sports article overlooked fastpitch

I am writing in response to the article in the Saturday, June 14 edition of the St. Albert Gazette about the cost of participating in sports in St. Albert, which I read with great interest.

I am writing in response to the article in the Saturday, June 14 edition of the St. Albert Gazette about the cost of participating in sports in St. Albert, which I read with great interest.

The article omitted to include the sport of fastpitch softball or fastball that is organized by Fastball St. Albert, a non-profit association that has proudly organized the sport in our city for the last 27 years.

Fastball St. Albert does not have the high profile of other sport associations in St. Albert such as hockey, ringette, baseball and soccer, but we offer a fun and very affordable sports alternative for both boys and (primarily) girls from May to July each year.

This year we have close to 200 young athletes participating in our ball season. We also put on indoor skills camps during the winter months. Fastball St. Albert offers play from the U8 to the U18 levels, with registration fees running from $100 a season at U8 and $150 or $300 from U10 to U18, depending on whether play is at the A/B or C levels. The level of play includes both recreational and competitive streams.

Fastball St. Albert is proud to represent the sport and the City of St. Albert when its teams compete in league play in St. Albert and Edmonton, and in tournaments all across Alberta, Western Canada and the United States. We are a fun and affordable alternative in St. Albert.
