It’s a real shame that council voted to cancel the angle parking downtown losing the 50 per cent additional parking spots so desperately needed by the customers (that's you and me) of our downtown businesses.
While on a recent road trip to Vancouver I experienced many very busy roads where angle parking was clearly working, just two examples are in downtown Abbotsford the main old town shopping area where the road is narrower and busier than Perron Street, and in New Westminster, the main road downtown where you are required to stop on the main road and back into the angle.
The difference is that in all these areas it seems drivers are more aware that when some is backing into or out of a space they show common courtesy and safely yield to the car that is backing up. I have to wonder why backing out of parking spaces works safely everywhere else but can’t work on Perron Street.
