Ken Johnson's letter (Gazette, March 31) about the "verified effects" of climate change doesn't restore any credibility to the global warming alarmist crowd.
He's got the facts exactly backwards, except for one point. The science has advanced but it shows that warming hasn't occurred appreciably in over 20 years, even though the production of man made CO2 continued all that time (and increased the greening of the earth).
The software models that try to simulate the behaviour of one of the most complicated systems on earth – the climate – don't prove or verify anything. And the reason that they are constantly being "re-calibrated" or tweaked is that they have failed to predict this pause or "hiatus" in warming. They can be adjusted to give any answer that the climate modeller wants. Their dirty little secret is that they only predict one half of the warming by "greenhouse gases" and the other half is assumed to be caused by water vapour that results from the predicted warming! Water vapour is the ultimate "greenhouse gas" not CO2, which is the poorest. Even methane, produced by cattle and termites, is 21 times more effective as a greenhouse gas than CO2, according to the UN.
In fact, the latest science, by a couple of Russian scientists, have claimed that the greenhouse gas theory that was first developed in 1824 is wrong and must be replaced. If they are right, then CO2 has absolutely nothing to do with warming of the earth.
Your readers can be forgiven if they're starting to get bored with being blamed for heating their homes and driving their cars, as it get noticeably colder each winter.
They can get a refreshing dose of the unbiased truth by reading the alternative to the IPCC's propaganda, by the Non-governmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) at climatechangereconsidered.org
